We’re not sure if Sandra Bullock had a premonition, but even she didn’t think her life was going to be this good after adopting her two kids. The Bird Box star recently opened up to People about what it means to her to be an adoptive mom. “We’re very lucky that we get to live in this moment in time where we get to choose what our family looks like, and I got to do that in real life,” the actress gushed.

“You imagine so many things for yourself, but when it appears it’s better than anything you could ever imagine,” the 54-year-old explained. “And in [Bird Box], it is about family in a sense, in that ‘sight’ has us choosing things based on a preconceived notion of what that image must be like, when in fact it’s the exact opposite.”

Sandra even said that her life has become more enriched since becoming a mom to her eight-year-old son, Louis, in 2010 and her six-year-old daughter, Laila, in 2015. “Here are these people who have that taken away, and you are actually given the family that is going to take the best care of you, that wants to take care of you, that wants to be there for you, and how that looks is very different from what most people expect,” she added. “But I think what I loved about this is that it sort of mirrored what I feel about real life, in that my family is not how most people thought it would look, but it’s better.” Aww!

In her new movie, Sandra plays a mom-of-two who spends the majority of the time running away from an unseen evil. The survivors must avoid making eye contact with the mysterious force that takes the form of their worst fears. Even though the role she is playing is fictional, Sandra admitted that she has fears of her own in real life — one that most moms can relate to.

“I know now what it feels like to be afraid every single day because I love my kids to the point where I’m a little neurotic,” she confessed to KTLA 5 Morning News on Dec. 11. “When they leave the house and go to school I check my phone constantly… did the school call?”

Even though she finds herself constantly worrying about her adorable kiddos, Sandra’s co-stars and friends credit her with being a superstar mama. Her Bird Box co-star Sarah Paulson had nothing but the best praise regarding Sandra, calling her “an incredible mother” and “an incredible girlfriend” who “takes care of every single actor on the set.”

Sarah even admitted that Sandra’s big heart inspired her. “It was an incredible thing to see someone who is at the top of their game who has been at the top of their game for a long time, and who is always meeting with a kindness and awareness of other people,” she added. So sweet!
