Uh-oh! Ryan Reynolds stopped by The Tonight Show to chat with Jimmy Fallon about his recent projects, upcoming films and, of course, his three adorable daughters. During his appearance on Thursday, December 12, the Deadpool star didn’t seem thrilled at all when he revealed his eldest daughter, James, wants to follow in his acting footsteps.
“I heard she said to you the words no actor wants to hear their kids say. She said she wants to get into acting?” Jimmy, 45, inquired as the two hunks sat in front of the studio audience on the iconic set. “She wants to be an actor, yep,” the 43-year-old reluctantly shared of his almost 5-year-old little girl.
“And I’m like, ‘I’m fine if you want to be an actor. Like, go ahead. In school, do after-school stuff — that’s all fine,” the proud dad — who shares James, Inez, 3, and a newborn baby daughter with longtime wife Blake Lively — adorably explained. “And right now, it’s every day is like a recital. She’s singing songs, she’s doing little plays at home — all that stuff. But like, being a child actor and in movies and stuff? That’s like a whole other ball of wax.”
Although it seemed like Ryan was initially on board with James’ child acting career, the Detective Pikachu actor quickly changed his tune. “I try to — I explained to her. I was like, ‘Look, you know that’s a huge burden on your nervous system. You know, having to process all of that attention and information. And you develop all of these unhealthy coping mechanisms,'” Ryan hilariously explained as the audience erupted in laughter.
“And she just looked at me, like she didn’t know what the f–k I was talking about,” he jokingly said. “And I was like, ‘Here’s what’s cheaper and easier is like, lets just skip showbiz and enroll you right into cocaine,” Ryan teased, as Jimmy could be heard saying, “Oh, my gosh. No, no, no.” “Because showbiz is not good for kids,” Ryan continued. “I feel like we should know this by now, right?” LOL!
Earlier in the day, the handsome hearthrob paid a visit to the Today show, where he chatted with Hoda Kotb and Craig Melvin about his personal life and family. While opening up about his youngest daughter — who was recently welcomed into their brood after Blake, 32, secretly gave birth this summer — Ryan had a hilarious reason for why they have yet to reveal their baby girl’s name.
“We haven’t [named her] yet!” the doting father of three jokingly replied when asked how he and his Gossip Girl star wife came up with the name for their third child. “We’re gonna be original and — all of the letters in her name are silent … I want to give her something to push against in life.” Ha!
We hope Ryan and Blake’s daughters grow up to have his admirable sense of humor!
