Rosie O’Donnell Confirms She’s Engaged To Much-Younger Girlfriend Elizabeth Rooney — See The Ring!
Congratulations are in order for Rosie O’Donnell! The 56-year-old star is engaged to her much-younger girlfriend, Elizabeth Rooney, 33, after a whirlwind romance, Rosie confirmed to Closer Weekly at the Rosie’s Theater Kids’ 15th Anniversary Fall Gala in NYC on Monday, Oct. 22. Elizabeth also took to Instagram on Monday to show off her huge new engagement ring from Rosie. She captioned the close-up photo, “Y E S ❤💍.”
News of the couple’s engagement first broke on Oct. 8 when a family insider told Radar Online that Rosie popped the question to Elizabeth over the summer but they chose to keep the news private due to Elizabeth’s job as a police officer in Worcester, MA. “Elizabeth is in the police force so she tries to keep a lot of those details on the low,” the source explained at the time.
“They’re very, very happy. I do believe that this will see its full life-term expectancy,” the insider said, adding that Rosie and Elizabeth are “very much in love.” Rosie and Elizabeth reportedly began dating back in November 2017. “Liz is a big personality. She always has been. She is incredibly endearing so it’s no surprise at all,” the source added of their romance.
On Oct. 22, Rosie exclusively spoke to Closer Weekly about her engagement and opened up about the 23-year age difference between herself and her fiancée, Elizabeth. “Everything’s sort of — you know, you kind of don’t notice it that way. I thought that I would but I kind of don’t,” the actress told us.
“But she knows every word and every joke to The Golden Girls. Now, I remember The Golden Girls, I was older. It wasn’t like my Mary Tyler Moore [Show]. It’s her Mary Tyler Moore, right. I can name everything of Mary Tyler Moore and every episode and that’s how she is with The Golden Girls. And she has every Golden Girls paraphernalia girl you can buy. She’s the swag queen of Golden Girls,” Rosie added.
During a previous radio interview with Howard Stern on The Howard Stern Show, Rosie gushed about Elizabeth and said she was “in love.” She continued, “I am in love. It’s the first time I’ve dated someone younger than me and it’s a very trippy thing. I get along so well with her, it’s kind of fascinating. The one thing that she doesn’t know? [Barbra] Streisand. I made her watch Funny Girl. She’s like, ‘It was good.’ I’m like, ‘Come on!'”
Rosie’s marriage to Elizabeth will be her third. The comedian was previously hitched to Kelli Carpenter and Michelle Rounds. She has four children with ex Kelli — son Parker O’Donnell, 23, daughter Chelsea O’Donnell, 21, son Blake O’Donnell, 18, and daughter Vivienne O’Donnell, 15 — and one daughter, Dakota O’Donnell, 5, with Michelle, who sadly passed away from suicide in September 2017.
