Roseanne Barr’s Son Jake Reveals She’s Living in ‘Hill Country’ Texas: ‘She’s the Best Grandma’

Roseanne Barr is living a quieter life in Texas these days, according to her son Jake Pentland.

“My mom lives with me, my wife and my two daughters. She’s the best grandma,” Jake, 47, told Us Weekly in an interview published Wednesday, April 9. “We have 30 acres and live up in what they call ‘Hill Country.’”

The former sitcom star, 72, doesn’t hesitate to enjoy the great outdoors with her grandchildren. In addition to her son Jake, Roseanne is a mom to four other kids, Jessica, Jennifer, Buck and Brandi.

“Roseanne also drives the tractor often, which allows her to mow the lawn. She drives around. She occasionally runs into trees but just keeps the yard up,” Jake explained. Roseanne’s also not afraid to put in elbow grease for her granddaughters as she’ll take a chainsaw herself to trim the tree branches “so they don’t hit the kids.”

It isn’t all work and no play for the actress. Apart from her work on “The Roseanne Baar” podcast, she recently filmed a Netflix project called Kill Tony in Austin, Texas. Jake also revealed that his mom has been busy crafting scripts, adding that she loves being creative.

“You might just see her on TV again soon,” he hinted. “You never know.”

Texas may not be the end game for Roseanne, as Jake also teased that his mother was “considering a move” to Palm Beach, Florida.

“She stays there with friends often,” he said. “She loves Palm Beach. When she stays with her friends there, she’s right in the heart of the city. She’s walking a lot, slowing down a little, but not too much.”

However, it wouldn’t a permanent move wouldn’t happen until late fall or even a year from now, as Jake explained, “We have some upcoming projects before she goes just yet.”

Roseanne’s life has made a drastic change since she was fired from her self-titled sitcom in 2019 after posting a comment that some believed to be racist.

“It cost me everything,” Roseanne apologized during an hour-long interview on Sean Hannity’s Fox News Channel show in July 2018. “I wish I worded it better.”

She has since focused on podcasting and comedy shows.

“When I go out onstage, people love me,” she exclusively told Closer in June 2024, adding that ironically, “they want to hear what I have to say even more than before I was cancel-cultured.”

Roseanne also discussed her podcast, a passion project that she is “loving.”

“I like to interview people. I had a talk show for a couple years in the ’90s but I really like when people expose their soft and vulnerable side,” the comic explained. “I really like that. That’s what I think I have the gift to get to with people because I’m not afraid to express that in my own life and career. I like to see powerful people as human beings.”

As for whether or not she has any regrets in her decades-long career, Roseanne revealed that she hopes to write a book about her life some day.

“Well, for the time and place I existed in I think it’s a great story,” she said. “I’m going to write a book about it. Everyone’s telling me to write a book about my years on the show and all that.”
