Robin Roberts and Partner Amber Laign’s Relationship Timeline Will Make You Believe in True Love

They First Meet

Robin and Amber first started dating in 2005 after they met on a blind date. Looking back on their first moments together, the SportsCenter alum said she was absolutely smitten.

“I met you for drinks that both you and I tried to cancel … twice,” she jokingly wrote on Instagram. “Your grace caught my eye right away and the ease of the evening continued to flow through dinner.”

The two hit it off and they went on their “second date soon after,” Robin explained in her post. “I couldn’t believe how at ease I was with you as we shared each other’s lives. You left for Tahiti the following day and during that time apart, I grew this feeling inside of me that [is] still very present today … butterflies.”

They Keep Quiet

Following their first meeting, Robin and Amber became inseparable. However, the two kept quiet about their relationship for the next eight years before Robin publicly came out as a lesbian in 2013.

Robin Reveals She’s Dating Amber

At the time she came out in 2013, Robin spoke about her sexuality for the first time while thanking her family for their love and support during her bone marrow transplant in 2012. The broadcaster revealed she was dating Amber as she reflected on a “critical milestone” in her treatment for myelodysplastic syndrome.

“I am grateful for my entire family, my longtime girlfriend, Amber and friends, as we prepare to celebrate a glorious new year together,” Robin penned on Facebook as she celebrated “100 days post-transplant.” The Emmy Award winner was happier than ever to finally come home from the hospital and spend time with Amber in December 2012.

The Two Are So in Love

After going public with their romance, Robin gave fans a glimpse inside their relationship. Not only is Amber a fun person to be around, but she praised her for having her back amid her cancer battle.

“She’s very, very supportive and she’s been right there beside me every step of the way,” Robin gushed during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in 2014. “It was actually the end of the year on my Facebook … I had been thanking my doctors, my nurses and my sister, who was a perfect match. And I said [to Amber], ‘I want to say thank you.’”

They Celebrate 15 Years Together

In July 2020, Robin and the massage therapist celebrated their 15th anniversary. The proud partner paid tribute to the special milestone by sharing a plethora of her favorite photos of them from over the years.

Robin also shared a lengthy message Amber penned for her. “Having you by my side is a gift as we continue to navigate this thing called life. I drive you crazy … I know, which is why I love you even more to this day,” read Amber’s love letter. “You have the kindest heart and most beautiful soul than anyone I know. I love you with all my heart, boo boo. Happy 15th anniversary!”

Wedding Bells?

Although neither Robin nor Amber had yet to comment on any future plans to tie the knot, there was no doubt they would make one magical married couple. They don’t plan on going over the top for their big day. “Expect the wedding to be a quiet affair with family and friends,” an insider once told Bet.

Taking the Leap

In January 2023, Robin revealed that she and Amber were ready to take the next step in their relationship.
“I’m saying ‘yes’ to marriage,” the broadcaster said during an episode of GMA. “We’re getting married this year. It’s something we have talked about, but we had put it off. She became ill, and it is saying yes to that and that next chapter.”

Long-Awaited Wedding

Robin and Amber got married on September 8, 2023, in front of their family, friends and her GMA costars.

“An intimate, magical wedding ceremony in our backyard followed by a joyous reception … ohhhh the dancing!!” Robin captioned an Instagram post after her nuptials. “We are immensely grateful to all for making it a day and a night to remember. Honeymoon here we come!”
