Some relationships just aren’t meant to last forever. That said, when Rhea Perlman and Danny DeVito called it quits on their marriage in 2017, they didn’t let it ruin their close bond.

“You agree that you love each other and that you have a history together and then you carry on. Life is too short!” Rhea, 71, exclusively told Closer Weekly at the premiere of HBO’s Foster on Monday, April 22, about remaining close with Danny, 74. “You just do it. You decide to do it.”

The pair share three adults kids together — Lucy, 36, Grace, 34, and Jake, 31. When People recently asked Danny how he defines his relationship with Rhea, he said, “We’re friends. We’re happy. Everybody’s happy.” He also added that they’re “very close.”

The former couple still likes working together and they don’t let their past romance get in the way. “She’s a good actress and I love working with her,” Danny admitted. The last movie that they starred in together was the 2006 film 10 Items or Less. Since then they both have worked on many popular movies and TV shows like Rhea’s Hot in Cleveland and Danny’s new film, Dumbo.

“I’ve got Dumbo coming out, and I’m so happy about being in it because this is my fourth time working with Tim Burton,” Danny previously gushed to Money. “It’s going to be so beautiful, and it’s for everybody. It’s for young kids, for old kids and us kids. Tim’s imagination is just off the charts. It’s a wonder.”

In the film, Danny plays Max Medici, a circus owner who comes across a lot more than he can handle. “The strongest themes of the movie — xenophobia, acceptance and confidence, and being self-assured and understanding that you can do it,” he previously told Extra. “You give that theme to an artist like Tim, now we are in the 21st century with CGI, you can’t not fall in love with that elephant.”
