Being a member of the royal family comes with a lot of perks! Writers over at Cosmopolitan recently uncovered that Queen Elizabeth can never be arrested (we just all have to trust that she won’t do anything illegal!) because of a little royal rule called Sovereign Immunity.

“Although civil and criminal proceedings cannot be taken against the Sovereign as a person under UK law, The Queen is careful to ensure that all her activities in her personal capacity are carried out in strict accordance with the law,” the royal family’s official website explained.

Interestingly, Queen Elizabeth’s family can enjoy Sovereign Immunity, too, but only to a certain extent. Though the Queen can’t be arrested, that doesn’t mean that Meghan Markle, Kate Middleton, Prince William, and Prince Harry are all exempt from the law.

According to Halsbury’s Laws of England, “Members of the royal household can’t be arrested in civil proceedings, arrests can’t go down in the monarch’s presence, and arrests can’t take place anywhere near a palace.” Fascinating, right?!

When Meghan married Prince Harry back in May, she started receiving lots of cool royal perks, but the best one might be the money she’ll reportedly inhert from Queen Elizabeth. In Touch recently reported that the Queen, 92, has grown so fond of Meghan, 37, that she’s going to leave her a huge lump sum of cash after her death and, apparently, Queen Elizabeth’s eldest son, Prince Charles, wasn’t too happy about that decision.

“He believes that the Queen should get to know Meghan more before making any rash decisions,” a source told the magazine. “He’s accused his mother of thinking with her heart, not her head.” Whatever the outcome of that situation, Meghan is one very lucky woman!
