We find this hard to believe. In a new interview, Princess Diana‘s former personal trainer Jenni Rivett has claimed the late royal never actually wanted to divorce Prince Charles despite contrary belief.

“Given the choice she would have stayed and tried to make a happy marriage. She loved Charles,” she shared on Yahoo’s The Royal Box. “She married for the right reasons. She married for love. It wasn’t her that asked for all of this. It was sprung upon her. She wasn’t the one that wanted to separate or have a divorce.”

Rivett added that Diana was upset she lost her title when they split. “I think she just felt hurt, as you would. It was just one thing after another,” she said. “She had to be such an ambassador for Britain and everyone adored her and loved her and she was still the mother of the future king. Why should she lose her title?”

Fans are questioning this notion considering Diana once described their July 1981 wedding as the “worst day of her life.”

“If I could write my own script, I would have my husband go away with his woman and never come back,” Diana once said in a never-before-heard series of interview tapes, referring to Charles’ infamous affair with longtime love Camilla Parker Bowles during both their courtship and marriage.

And so it turned out, she had doubts since right after they got engaged. “I went upstairs, had lunch with my sisters who were there, and I said, ‘I can’t marry him. I can’t do this. This is absolutely unbelievable,'” Diana said in one recording. “And they were wonderful and said, ‘Well, bad luck, Duch. Your face is on the tea towel, so you’re too late to chicken out.'”

But don’t worry, Prince Charles didn’t feel the nicest way about Diana either. There have been reports that he married her because was bullied by his father, that he was jealous of her popularity during their marriage, and that he cried the night before their wedding. What a mess of a marriage, honestly!
