With Prince Jacques and Princess Gabriella of Monaco’s first birthday just a few days away, Prince Albert is opening up about Princess Charlene‘s strong relationship with their adorable royal twins.

“She’s very eager to be with her children at all times,” Albert, 57, revealed to People. “She’s up with the kids at 6:00, 6:30 am and takes them through the morning. Every day.”

“But really. I don’t think they would be as smiling and happy as they are if she weren’t as good a mother as she is,” he continued.

The 37-year-old’s devotion to her children may explain why she has been noticeably absent during several public royal outings this past year. “Her priority has been her children’s health and welfare,” a friend close to Princess Charlene revealed to People. “She’s very hands-on and absolutely dedicated to them.”

“[It’s] mostly because of the children,” Albert added of his wife’s absences at events. “She’s had to organize a number of things a little differently during the past year. She’s had to organize several household moves this year as well (the couple have been living away from the palace during its renovation) and that has been a big task for her, but she’s shown herself to be incredibly organized and a great mother.”
