We wonder what Kate Middleton thinks of her hubby’s new look! Prince William stepped out at a royal event in London on Thursday, Jan. 18 and debuted a freshly shaved head. Though he’s been noticeably balding over the years, fans were, frankly, shocked by William’s decision to buzz off the hair he had left. Lucky for the 35-year-old, celebrity hairstylist Joe Mills told the The Independent that William’s new haircut actually shows the world just how confident the Duke is with his thinning locks.

“For a long time, comments have been made, especially online and in the press, about the fact that his hair is thinning and he’s losing his hair. I think him just literally going I’m going to crop my hair off is a really strong statement, a very confident statement,” Mills said. “If you are photographed and in the public eye to that degree, it’s very, very hard to look great all the time. I think it suits him, I think he looks great with it.”

Interestingly, a 2014 study actually revealed women find bald men “stronger, sexier, and more masculine” than men with hair, according to The Express. Additionally, men without much hair are viewed as “more dominant and confident” than their peers. That’s certainly good news for Wills! William’s thinning hair is definitely no secret to the Duke himself — in fact, the father-of-two actually joked about losing his hair back in September 2017! While chatting with hairstylist Taz Kabria at a royal event last fall, William joked, “I don’t have much hair, I can’t give you much business!” At least he’s honest!

Funnily enough, William isn’t the first royal family member to candidly speak out about the prince’s thinning hair. Back in April 2011, William’s father, Prince Charles, teased his son during a wedding breakfast celebrating his union with Kate. “The thing about growing older is that your children get taller than you so they can see your bald spots,” Charles reportedly said at the time. “Now in my case, I can see his!” Ouch!

Charles eventually got a taste of his own medicine with his youngest son, Prince Harry (who is actually losing his hair, too!) publicly poked fun at his dad’s baldness during a royal visit to the Amazon rainforest in December 2016. During the trip, Harry was presented with a colorful, feathered headdress just like one Charles wore during a similar trip back in 2000 — and joked about the duo’s differing looks while wearing the headpiece! “My father told me what an amazing time he had [here] when he was far younger and had more hair as well,” Harry joked. At least the royal men can all make fun of their changing looks!
