GOAL! Prince William couldn’t keep his cool when his favorite soccer team, Aston Villa, scored the winning point in a game against Derby County at Wembley stadium on Monday, May 27.

As soon as he realized the British players would be moving on to the Premiere League, he threw his hands in the air and immediately hugged former player John Carew, who was standing right next to him.

Apparently, Aston Villa’s epic win was a big moment for William because he’s been a longtime fan of the team and still supported them even when they weren’t that popular.

“A long time ago at school, I got into football big-time,” the duke previously told Birmingham Mail about how his love for soccer began. “I was looking around for clubs. All my friends at school were either Man United or Chelsea fans and I didn’t want to follow the run-of-the-mill teams. I wanted to have a team that was more mid-table that could give me more emotional rollercoaster moments.”

“I have got friends of mine who support Aston Villa and one of the first FA Cup games I went to was Bolton vs. Aston Villa back in 2000,” he continued. “It was the atmosphere, the camaraderie and I really felt that there was something I could connect with.”

Being one of Ashton Villa’s longtime fans seemed to have paid off because William was in complete bliss when his team won the game and started running around the field like champions. We can probably say that the last time we’ve seen the prince this happy was when his beloved baby, Prince Louis, 1, was born in April 2018 and made him a proud father-of-three.

Even though nothing can compare to the great feeling of fatherhood, we’re sure having your No. 1 team make it to the Premiere League comes close.
