Thank goodness he’s alright! Prince Philip was involved in a scary car accident right outside of his Sandringham estate on Thursday, Jan. 17, after the Land Rover he was riding in collided with another vehicle. Though the SUV “overturned,” the 97-year-old Duke of Edinburgh was thankfully unscathed, Closer Weekly confirms.
“Officers were called to the A149 at Sandringham Estate today, Thursday the 17th of January, 2019, shortly before 3 p.m. following reports of a collision involving two cars,” Norfolk authorities told Radar Online. “Police and ambulance attended. Two people in one vehicle suffered minor injuries. The road is not blocked and remains open.”
It’s a wonder that Queen Elizabeth‘s husband was able to walk away from the crash with no injuries, considering his advanced age and numerous health problems in recent years. Just nine months ago, the duke was forced to undergo a hip surgery replacement. While his supporters were very worried about him, he healed up incredibly well and was grateful for the kind words. “His Royal Highness would like to convey his appreciation for the messages of good wishes he has received,” the palace said in a statement in April 2018.
In 2017, the prince officially retired from his royal duties after an emergency meeting at Buckingham Palace. Just one month later, he was hospitalized with a severe infection. Luckily, he quickly bounced back from that as well. Recently, he has been in seemingly good health, even attending his granddaughter Princess Eugenie‘s wedding at Windsor Castle in October 2018. He seemed to be in high spirits and looked happy to be supporting his family on such a special occasion.
We’re so glad that Prince Philip was unharmed in the scary crash, and hope to see him in good health for many years to come!
