As Prince Harry prepares himself to become a new dad within the next few weeks, the Duke of Sussex has taken on a new title — godfather! Harry received his new role when he, Meghan Markle and Queen Elizabeth made a surprise visit to the countryside for the christening of the littlest royal family member, Lena Tindall, on Sunday, March 17.

The 34-year-old royal was given the title of godfather to his cousin Zara Tindall and her husband Mike Tindall‘s 9-month-old daughter, Lena. Harry taking on the new title means that he will follow in Prince William‘s footsteps — the 36-year-old is already the godfather to the Tindalls’ oldest daughter, 5-year-old Mia.

However, two familiar faces were clearly missing from the crowd at Lena’s royal baptism — William and his wife, Kate Middleton. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge were unable to join their royal family members at the christening because the two spent their day taking part in a traditional parade of the Irish Guards in honor of St. Patrick’s Day.

Harry becoming a godfather to Lena comes just weeks before his pregnant wife, Meghan, is expected to give birth to their first royal child. The 37-year-old, who is due in late April, hid her growing baby bump at the christening underneath a stunning burgundy coat accessorized with a small navy blue beret. As for Harry, the red-haired royal wore a navy blue suit paired with a matching periwinkle tie, while attending church about three miles from the family’s royal estate at Gatcombe.

Apparently, those who happen to live around the area of the church never imagined the christening would have had such a star-studded guest list. An “onlooker” at the event told the Daily Mail it was “surprisingly low-key.” A parish councilor also even admitted that she had no idea that Harry, Meg and the queen, 92, were planning on attending. “The vicar didn’t say anything about it,” she told the outlet following the morning service.

Last summer, Lena’s proud dad and former pro rugby player Mike opened up about the “brilliant” birth of his second child. “So far, so good. I can’t complain,” the 40-year-old gushed to People. “[Lena] eats, sleeps.” Congratulations to Harry on his new godfather title and to the Tindalls on little Lena’s royal christening!
