What do you get a princess-in-training who has everything for Christmas? Luckily, Prince Harry has nailed the ideal gift for his fiancée Meghan Markle — the smitten royal has got a new puppy to join them in Nottingham Cottage!
Meghan was devastated when she was forced to leave her beloved Labrador-shepherd cross Bogart behind in Canada with friends after he was deemed too old to fly. And while she did bring six-year-old Beagle Guy to the UK with her, Harry knows that Meghan has a dog-shaped hole in her heart.
"I have two dogs that I’ve had for quite a long time, both my rescue pups," Megan said during the couple's engagement interview after their big announcement. “One is now staying with very close friends and my other little guy is — yes he’s in the UK. He’s been here for a while."
According to palace sources, Harry has now picked out the perfect canine companion for his beloved bride-to-be. Harry has never owned a dog himself, in part due to his constant traveling while in military service.
But insiders say he's excited to have a four-legged friend join the family. "Harry has been waiting until his circumstances made it practical to have one," royal biographer Penny Junor said. "He loves (dogs)."
We're sure the royal couple's new dog will fit in quite well with Queen Elizabeth and her corgis considering they've loved Meghan since the beginning. "The corgis took you straight away,” Harry teased. "I’ve spent the last 33 years being barked at; this one walks in, absolutely nothing." Even Meghan admitted that she's already formed a special bond with the Queen's pups. "That’s true,” she added. "Just laying on my feet during tea, it was very sweet." Well soon they will have a new friend — and we can't wait to see pics!
