Prince Harry Says He Is ‘Very Grateful’ That Prince Charles Walked Meghan Markle Down The Aisle

Aww! Prince Harry knows he can always rely on his father, especially when it comes to one of the most important things in his life. The Duke of Sussex recently opened up about the day he asked Prince Charles to walk his then-fianceé, Meghan Markle, down the aisle at their wedding. “I was very grateful for him to be able to do that,” Harry emotionally reveals in the Prince, Son, and Heir: Charles at 70 documentary, which airs on BBC One on Nov. 8. 

Being that Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle, was unable to come to the Windsor Castle nuptials, Harry, 34, addressed the matter by asking Charles to do the special deed. “I think he knew it was coming,” Harry says. “He immediately said, ‘Yes, of course, I’ll do whatever Meghan needs and I’m here to support you.'”

Charles, 69, led Meghan, 37, down the aisle to her prince, who then turned to his dad and said, “Thank you, Pa.” The ginger-haired hunk admitted that he wanted his father to know how grateful he was. “You’ve gotta say thank you,” Harry says of the moment. “Just because he’s my father that doesn’t mean I can just sort of go, ‘Okay, that’s all, I’ll take it from here.'”

The sweet expression of gratitude was not captured by many, but Charles’ wife, Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, expressed her feelings towards Harry’s token of appreciation. “I think that was very touching, sitting where I was, you couldn’t hear what he said. But afterward watching it on the television, I… I think it was a very… it was a lovely gesture,” she says in the documentary.

Charles’ adorable gestures didn’t stop there. Camilla, 71, revealed the moment when Charles took Meghan’s mom, Doria Ragland, by the arm to head into a private room to sign the marriage register. “A lot of people, seeing my husband actually take the bride’s mother by the hand to sign the registry,” she says. “It’s something that moved everybody.”

Charles wanting to walk the former Suits actress down the aisle shows how much he really cares about her. This comes as no shock considering a royal insider dished to Closer Weekly that the father-of-two has told friends that “We could not like her [Meghan] more.” The insider also revealed that “Charles feels sorry for Meghan,” regarding the alleged strained relationship with her father, “and has taken her under his wing.”

We love the relationship that Charles and Meghan have, and getting to watch him walk her down the aisle in the documentary is something worth reliving. “For him, that’s a fantastic opportunity to step up and be that support,” Harry gushes. “And you know he’s our father so of course he’s gonna be there for us.”
