What’s going on here? Melania Trump made an appearance at the 2017 Invictus Games in Toronto — her first solo trip as First Lady of the United States — and had what appeared to be a very awkward meeting with Prince Harry. When FLOTUS, 47, posed for photos with Harry, 33, things got really weird when the British royal positioned his hand in a very peculiar way.

In photos from their meeting, Harry’s middle and ring fingers are slipped into his suit jacket. And while you might be thinking that cameras caught the handsome redhead’s hand in a momentarily strange position, a video from NBC News shows that he held his hand that way for at least 35 seconds. So what is he trying to say? As Cosmopolitan points out, the gesture kind of looks like a surfer’s “hang ten” signal.

Whatever his gesture means, it’s clear that he wanted his hand positioned like that for every single picture he took with Melania. For her part, the Slovenian-born former model looks completely clueless to Harry’s hand in many of the photos. In fact, she and the prince look dreadfully uncomfortable standing next to one another — so maybe Harry just didn’t know what to do with his hand (since he obviously didn’t want to use it to shake Melania’s)?

It’s no surprise that there might be bad vibes between Harry and Melania. During a 2016 interview on Comedy Central’s The Nightly Show With Larry Wilmore, Harry’s girlfriend, Meghan Markle, called Melania’s husband, President Donald Trump, “misogynistic,” and made it clear that he didn’t have her support.

Aside from Meghan’s disapproval of the Trumps, Harry might have felt a little uneasy next to Melania as Donald, 71, reportedly tried to court his late mom, Princess Diana, not long after she separated from Prince Charles in 1992. “Trump clearly saw Diana as the ultimate trophy wife,” U.K. journalist Selina Scott wrote in The Sunday Times in 2015. “As the roses and orchids piled up at her apartment, she became increasingly concerned about what she should do. It had begun to feel as if Trump was stalking her.”

Donald and Diana eventually met up once, and after the princess died at age 36 in a fatal Paris car crash, the business mogul was asked by Howard Stern if he “could’ve nailed” her during a particularly offensive radio interview. “I think I could’ve,” Donald replied at the time.
