What an awesome birthday present! Prince George turns five years old on Sunday, July 22, and the little boy is honored in a very special way to celebrate — he's getting his very own £5 coin!
The Royal Mint shared the exciting news on Wednesday, July 18. "The birth of Prince George altered the course of history in the United Kingdom, and we are pleased to be marking the fifth birthday of our future king," Nicola Howell, director of consumer business at The Royal Mint, shared.
The silver coin — which can be purchased for £13 (or nearly $17) — features St. George and the dragon on the front and Queen Elizabeth on the back.
This isn't the first coin royal fans can add to their collection, though. George was previously honored with a commemorative coin for his first and second birthdays in 2014 and 2015 as well as for his christening in 2013. On top of that, babies born on his birthday back in 2013 were able to receive lucky pennies from the coin-making company.
It was previously reported that Prince George's parents, Kate Middleton and Prince William, will be throwing their son a lavish birthday party. "Kate is organizing a lavish $100,000 birthday party for George in the gardens of Kensington Palace," a royal insider told Life & Style. "Kate doesn't always spoil her kids like this, but she wants George's 5th to be a day to remember!"
"There will be lots of toy cars, like mini Ferraris, for George and his friends to drive around the gardens in," the insider continued. "There will be hundreds of balloons and a huge Lego area where the kids can build. And Kate also plans to set up a little fairground and a bouncy house."
But the coin isn't the only cool gift George will receive this year. At the party, Kate is planning to make the dessert part very special. "Kate is going to surprise George," the source continued. "With a huge, colorful, custom-made birthday cake." We'll keep an eye out for our invite!
