The name’s Bond, James Bond. Well he goes by Pierce Brosnan, but while everyone knows the Irish-American actor for his memorable films and his charming persona, not a lot of people know that he is also a father-of-five — and it is right about the time we shine a light on them!
The 66-year-old has been married twice in his life, with the first one coming in 1980 to actress Cassandra Harris. The pair had one child together, Sean, in 1983, and parted ways in 1991. The Mrs. Doubtfire star did adopt his first wife’s children, Charlotte and Chris, after their dad passed away in 1986. They both took his surname Brosnan. Tragically, Cassandra also died in 1991 after a battle with ovarian cancer — the same disease that would eventually take her daughter’s life years later.
It would take ten years after Cassandra’s death for Pierce to get married again, as in 2001 he tied the knot with journalist Keely Shaye Smith — they share two sons, Dylan and Paris. “You have to trust and follow your heart, and try to meet the best people in life,” Pierce once exclusively told Closer Weekly about finding love again. “When Keely looks at me, I go weak. I love her vitality, her passion. She has this strength that I wouldn’t be able to live without.”
“I don’t look at the cup as half-full, believe me,” the A-lister continued, referring to the losses in his life. “The dark, melancholy Irish black dog sits beside me from time to time.” Pierce is of course all about his family, especially his kids. “Being a father is a huge responsibility, but it’s a satisfying one,” he added.
