Oprah Winfrey is getting candid about never becoming a mom.
In a new interview, the media mogul opened up about her choice not to be a parent — and revealed she’s totally fine with it. “I didn’t want babies. I wouldn’t have been a good mom for babies,” the 63-year-old told Good Housekeeping UK. “I don’t have the patience. I have the patience for puppies, but that’s a quick stage!”

Though Oprah has never been married, she and her boyfriend, Stedman Graham, have been together since 1986. “When people were pressuring me to get married and have children, I knew I was not going to be a person that ever regretted not having them, because I feel like I am a mother to the world’s children,” Oprah — who is a mother figure to 172 students in the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls — revealed.
“Love knows no boundaries. It doesn’t matter if a child came from your womb or if you found that person at age two, 10 or 20. If the love is real, the caring is pure and it comes from a good space, it works,” she continued. Oprah previously became pregnant at just 14-years-old after suffering sexual abuse during her childhood. She gave birth to her son in the late 1960s, and the baby sadly passed away in the hospital weeks later.
In 2013, the talk show host also spoke about not regretting not having children. “If I had kids, my kids would hate me,” Oprah told The Hollywood Reporter at the time. “They would have ended up on the equivalent of the Oprah Show talking about me; because something [in my life] would have had to suffer and it would’ve probably been them.”
“[My best friend] Gayle King was the kind of kid who, in seventh grade home ec class, was writing down her name and the names of her children,” she continued. “While she was having those kind of daydreams, I was having daydreams about how I could be Martin Luther King.” You go, Oprah!
