Taking on the role of Queen Elizabeth in Netflix’s The Crown might seem like a daunting prospect for actress Olivia Colman, the star tasked with playing the monarch in the show’s third season, but we have every confidence that she’ll do a brilliant job. In the meantime, it seems that the Broadchurch star has been taking tips from the show’s current Queen, Claire Foy. “She’s f–king amazing and it’s a very hard act to follow,” the actress told the Radio Times, before revealing that the show’s producers had put her in contact with Claire, presumably so the latter could share her wisdom on her cut-glass pronunciation of “Philip.”

“They — the people, the grown-ups — put us in touch so I could ask her about it and she was just lovely, she’s one of the sweetest people ever and she’s brilliant,” Olivia said, adding that Claire has another super-fan in the form of her husband, fellow actor Ed Sinclair. “We are completely obsessed with The Crown anyway but whenever Claire Foy comes on he goes, ‘Oh, she’s amazing,'” she said.

“Watching the first season was blissful because I had no idea [I’d later be on the show]. With the second season, I now know I’ve got to follow in her footsteps,” she added. According to Olivia, who is as yet the only new cast member to be officially confirmed by The Crown’s team, she knows as little about the forthcoming season as we do. “I don’t start [filming] until July so I know nothing about it yet apart from they said I could do it, so I’m holding them to that,” she told the Radio Times.

So, no hints as to who will be cast as Camilla Parker Bowles and Princess Diana, then. It’s been heavily rumoured that Olivia will star alongside Helena Bonham Carter as Princess Margaret, though Matt Smith’s Prince Philip is yet to be re-cast, after Paul Bettany stepped back from the role due to schedule clashes.
