From one power couple to another! Barack Obama and Michelle Obama took to Twitter after the news broke of Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s engagement on Nov. 27, and their congratulatory message to the new royal couple was so heartfelt and sweet!

“Michelle and I are delighted to congratulate Prince Harry and Meghan Markle on their engagement,” wrote the former president on Twitter. “We wish you a lifetime of joy and happiness together.” We couldn’t agree more!

It makes sense that the Obamas would be particularly excited about this upcoming wedding. For starters, Meghan is an American citizen, which means that the union represents two countries bonding over something good (which is something the world really needs these days).

On top of that, Michelle has also spent a considerable amount of time with Harry this year and they’re closer friends than ever. In November he joined her at the first Obama Foundation Summit in Chicago, after reuniting at the Invictus Games in Toronto (where he stepped out in public for the first time with Meghan). The pair worked closely on the Invictus Games in Orlando the year before as well, which is how they became good friends.

In 2011, people were shocked that the Obamas weren’t invited to Kate Middleton and Prince William’s wedding, despite the fact that 40 other heads of state were. However, we’re willing to bet that the Obamas would get the invite to Harry and Meghan’s celebration. But what does a president bring a prince as a wedding gift? We can’t wait to find out!
