Nia Vardalos Talks Motherhood and ‘My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2’!

Does Nia Vardalos want her daughter, Illaria, 10, to follow in her acting footsteps?

“After medical school, sure!” Nia, 53, quips to Closer. It’s the kind of joke you’d expect from the writer and star of the blockbuster My Big Fat Greek Wedding and a self-proclaimed “over-involved” mom.

But motherhood has been a special blessing for Nia and her husband, Cougar Town’s Ian Gomez, 51, who tried to become parents for a decade before adopting Ilaria in 2008.

Now Nia’s adventures in parenthood are the genesis of My Big Fat Greek Wedding 2, out now. “Every movie I write is rooted in my life, and I put all my experiences in this sequel,” she shares. “It’d be interesting to write about prison. I might commit a crime just so I can do it!”
