New Photos Tease the Return of Popular ‘Outlander’ Characters in Spinoff ‘Blood of My Blood’

Two more popular characters from Outlander are returning in the show’s upcoming spinoff, Outlander: Blood of My Blood; only this time, they’re in younger form!

In new photos obtained by TVLine, Dougal and Colum MacKenzie are back! Fans will get to see the younger versions of the MacKenzie brothers in the prequel. The younger version of Dougal will be played by Sam Retford, while Colum will be played by Seamus McLean Ross.

Additionally, Rory Alexander was cast as a younger version of Jamie Fraser’s godfather, Murtagh Fitzgibbons Fraser.

The new series is set to follow the stories of Jamie’s parents, Ellen MacKenzie and Brian Fraser, and Claire Fraser’s parents, Julia Moriston and Henry Beauchamp.

“The series will center on these two parallel love stories set in two different time periods, with Jamie’s parents in the early 18th-century Scottish Highlands and Claire’s parents in WWI England,” the show’s synopsis says.

Previously, it was revealed that Harriet Slater and Jamie Roy would play Jamie’s parents, while Hermione and Jeremy Irvine will play Claire’s parents.

The prequel will make its way into the Starz lineup at some point in 2025, though no official premiere date has been announced just yet.

Outlander is currently airing season 7 on Starz, with season 8 slated to be the show’s last.

Fans who were hoping that a second spinoff was in the pipeline centering around Lord John Grey got some disappointing news. Actor David Berry revealed that he was all set for a spinoff until plans fell through

“I haven’t spoken about this. But I think that since the series is over, I feel a bit more comfortable talking about it,” he told Deadline in November. “There was a time in Season 4 when we were going to shoot our Lord John series; it had been written — well, there was a writer attached and I’d signed a contract to do a series.”

“It went down to the wire of whether or not it would get approved by the network, but ultimately, at the time, it was decided that that wasn’t the right fit, or wasn’t the right thing for them,” he continued. “I was prepared to do it, and I’m still prepared to do it.”

Still, he’s hoping that there’s a chance that the Lord John spinoff idea hasn’t been tabled for good.

“Matt [B. Roberts] and Maril [Davis], executive producers on Outlander, have also expressed a lot of interest in doing it. So I guess it really depends on finding a network for it and audience interest in moving forward and doing a spinoff,” David, 40, said. “But definitely, it was something that was on the cards at one point. The fact that it didn’t go ahead was very disappointing at the time. But whether or not it will go ahead again, that’s really in the hands of the audiences, and whether or not there is still an interest in seeing more from this character.”
