Nelson Burkhard (aka Jason Marsden) Turned Down ‘Fuller House’ for a Pretty Peculiar Reason…
Ok, so he may not have been a core cast member, but any die-hard fan of Full House knows who Nelson Burkhard is. Nelson — played by Jason Marsden — was D.J. Tanner‘s boyfriend for a hot minute. He was an insanely rich dude who was crushing on D.J. big time, even though the feeling wasn’t mutual. But (plot twist!) after D.J.’s BFF Kimmy Gibbler went on a date with him, D.J. had a change of heart. Ultimately, though, the two decided they were better off as friends, and, much to the dismay of many fans, Nelson was only on Full House for a few episodes. Clearly, he left a lasting impression, though, because tons of people have been wondering why he’s not part of the Fuller House cast today.
The short of it is, Jason — who also played Jason on Boy Meets World — was asked to reprise his role on Fuller House, but he’s the one who turned them down, as he was already committed to something else… Dragon Con. When fans kept wondering on Twitter why the actor wasn’t part of the reboot, he explained (in three videos, no less) why he wasn’t returning to the show. Basically, he was asked a while back to be a celebrity guest at Dragon Con in Atlanta, and it was the same week he would have had to shoot for Fuller House.
“Getting an invitation to Dragon Con isn’t easy and it’s something I’ve been trying to do for years,” he said in one of the videos, adding, “Also, I made the choice as a matter of convenience.” Jason lives in Tennessee and can drive to Atlanta, where as he would have to had to fly to LA to play Nelson. At the end of the day, though, the 90s heartthrob assured he has nothing but love for Fuller House.
Since wrapping Full House in 1995, the Jason has had a seriously impressive career, mainly as a voice actor. Jason — who, by the way, is not related to actor James Marsden — voiced Kovu in The Lion King 2: Simba’s Pride, young Clark Kent in the Superman series, and Max Goof in A Goofy Movie, as well as its sequel. He has also landed live acting roles on Ally McBeal, as well as in movies White Squall and Fun With Dick and Jane.
From the looks of things on his (very active) Twitter page, Jason is happy as a clam these days and busier than ever with voice work for films, television, and video games. But make no mistake about it, Full House fans are going to have a hard time watching someone else play Nelson Burkhard if he does turn up on Fuller House!
