After more than three decades of marriage, Neil Young has filed for divorce from fellow musician, Pegi Young. The petition was submitted by the 68-year-old in San Mateo, Calif., on July 29th.
Married since 1977, the pair were frequent musical collaborators and Pegi served as the inspiration for many of Neil's most beloved songs, including "Such a Woman," "Once an Angel" and "Unknown Legend," which chronicles their initial meeting at a diner near his California ranch.
Pegi first began working as Neil's backup singer in the 1990s, going on numerous tours over the past 20 years and performing with him at the 1994 Academy Awards. Their last known performance together was at the Bridge School Benefit in Oct. 2013.
The musicians co-founded the Bridge School in 1986 after noticing a lack of educational opportunities for their son Ben, who suffers from cerebral palsy. The organization raises funds to help educate children with severe physical impairments and holds an all-star concert every year to raise awareness.
Recently, Pegi began touring on her own, occasionally recruiting her husband to play guitar, and has released three solo albums since 2007. Neil just wrapped a European Crazy Horse tour and is expected to play American solo dates in October.
