Actress Naomi Watts smiled brightly as she arrived for opening night of the play Harry Clarke in NYC on March 18. She was there to support the show’s star, Billy Crudup, her former co-star on Netflix’s Gypsy — and whom she’s rumored to be dating. “They have a great time together,” a friend of Naomi exclusively told Closer Weekly in a new interview. “They’ve worked together, traveled together. Billy is in her life at a time when Naomi is open to new possibilities.”

Still, her friend is quick to say Naomi, 49, “isn’t really putting her heart on the line just yet.” The actress and her longtime partner, Ray Donovan’s Liev Schreiber, 50, split in September 2016 after 11 years together. They share two sons, Samuel, 9, and Sasha, 10. While Liev has been seen with former Miss South Dakota Taylor Neisen, Naomi has stayed single. “There are good days and bad days,” she’s said.

Still, she hasn’t ruled out “the journey of romance,” says her friend. Naomi and Billy, 49, have a lot in common and know many of the same people. But her pal notes Naomi “would in no way classify their relationship as serious.”

Naomi is serious about her kids, though, and she and Liev work hard at co-parenting. “[We] are on great terms and we’re trying to do our absolute best for the sake of the children,” she has noted. A child of divorce, she’s intent on making sure Samuel and Sasha have a stable home life. “I feel like change is always scary,” she admitted, so any new relationship she’ll likely take slow. “I want to make sure my kids are healthy, happy and things are going to go well,” Naomi said. “Those are my hopes for me and for all of us.”
