Morgan Freeman's goddaughter E'Dena Hines (who was often referred to as his step-granddaughter), 33, was found dead in NYC's Washington Heights neighborhood on Sunday, Aug. 16.
According to police, she was stabbed multiple times in the upper body, and was then taken to Harlem Hospital where she was pronounced dead.
Lamar Davenport, 30, Hines' boyfriend, has allegedly been charged with murder and taken to Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation. According to an eye witness, Davenport seemed to be performing an exorcism.
George Hudacko, who lives nearby, told CBS he called the police after allegedly seeing Davenport stabbing Hines at 3 a.m..
“I heard the him say something like ‘Devil, be gone, Jesus and God,'” Hudacko said. “I said 'uh oh.' He was kneeling over her and screaming about ‘God has arisen. He was totally off the ranch.”
Police have not revealed more details about the stabbing.
Freeman thanked his fans and loved ones for their continued support during this difficult time.
"The world will never know her artistry and talent, and how much she had to offer," he said in a statement. "Her friends and family were fortunate enough to have known what she meant as a person. Her star will continue to shine bright in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. May she rest in peace. "
Our thoughts are with Hines' family and friends.
