Mina Starsiak Hawk ‘100 Percent Misses’ Filming ‘Good Bones’: ‘I Miss the Real Work’

Mina Starsiak Hawk admitted that life has been a bit different for her since ending Good Bones’ original run after eight seasons on HGTV.

“Do you miss filming Good Bones,” one fan asked Mina in a Q&A in her Instagram Stories on Sunday, October 13.

“I grew up making Good Bones,” Mina, 39, responded. “I started in my 20s. I turn 40 this year. Most of my adult life was spent making the show.”

“I miss the real work,” her response continued. “The fun. The pranks. The amazing relationships. The experiences I got to have that I never would have had if not for the show. 100% I miss it.”

Mina and her mom, Karen E. Laine, waved goodbye to Good Bones season 8 in October 2023. They deemed it the final season, which ended with Mina’s brother Tad Starsiak having his new home renovated and getting engaged.

However, HGTV shocked everyone when they announced Good Bones would be coming back for a special three-part season in August.

In the first episode of the special season, viewers got to see Mina work on her new lake house with her husband, Steve Hawk, and some familiar faces from the show’s previous seasons. In the second and third episodes of the special season, fans watched as Karen did renovations on her new house in Wilmington, North Carolina. Karen has since put the home up for sale.

Prior to the show’s season 8 finale, Mina revealed that she was embroiled in a rift with her mom and brother Tad on her “Mina AF” podcast. She explained that she and Karen came to blows while filming the show’s eighth season.

“There were definitely some challenging [moments] because my mom and I were in some of the most challenging places I felt we’ve been,” Mina told People in September 2023.

Mina and Karen did not interact with each other in any scenes during the special three-part season this summer. Instead, the focus was on their respective projects in different states.

The home renovator also revealed that she was no longer in a good place with Good Bones’ Cory Miller.

“So, there’s been enough questions about Cory that I’m going to try to address this in a respectful way again, understanding that I have a platform that he maybe doesn’t have,” Mina said during a podcast episode in December 2023. “Cory and I are not on speaking terms. I am positive that there are things he feels like I did to him, and I have known him since he was 11, and I’ve always had a soft spot for him.”

Designer MJ Coyle also spoke out on the strained dynamic of the cast in season 8 of the show.

“It got to the point that our small team, at that point, we weren’t like even enjoying each other’s company,” MJ said during an October 2023 appearance on Mina’s podcast. “We got through COVID, we got through all of these things, we got through all of these seasons and everyone was just very burnt out. Everyone was sore. Everyone was miserable.”
