Get ready to moonwalk, folks! It looks like the legacy of the late Michael Jackson is being memorialized on Broadway. While few details are known at this time, including the name of the show, there are a few exciting things worth noting!

“The Michael Jackson Estate and Columbia Live Stage have partnered to develop a musical inspired by the pop icon; the show is expected to bow in New York in 2020,” Playbill announced on Wednesday, June 20.

In addition to a projected date, the musical — which will include a number of Michael’s greatest hits — will be written by two-time Pulitzer Prize Winner Lynn Nottage, who is best known for Sweat and Ruined. Christopher Wheeldon of An American in Paris fame has also “been tapped” to direct and choreograph, Playbill noted.

This wouldn’t be the first time that the King of Pop’s musical catalog was used on stage. Back in 2007, Thriller – Live was hugely successful in major cities around the world including London and Munich. In fact, the show has been steadily performed at London’s West End Lyric Theatre since January 2009. It’s actually been seen by more than 4 million people in over 30 countries!

If this new production is anything like the original, viewers can expect a fantastic show. Thriller – Live was a whopping two-and-a-half hours long and covered everything from The Jackson 5 to Michael’s solo work. Even if there’s been no word on casting yet, it sounds as if this musical is going to be, well, music to our ears! Here’s hoping tickets won’t sell out faster than we can say, “Billie Jean.”
