Michael Douglas says it's acceptable to ask actresses to lose weight if their role requires them to be "eye candy."

When the topic came up in a recent interview, the actor stated, "If your role in that picture is to be eye candy and the director looks at you and says, 'You're going to be in a bra and panties and you're looking pretty soft around the middle,' absolutely you'd tell that person to kick ass."

The 69-year-old, who is currently starring in The Reach opposite Jeremy Irvine, believes having the right look is crucial to a film's success, and uses his co-star, who gained 20 pounds of muscle for his role, as an example.

"This guy [Jeremy's character] is search and rescue. He's a mountaineer. He's in physical shape. Ignoring the fact that he happens to be a decent looking guy, it would be wrong for him to not be in shape," Michael said.

The Oscar winner also managed to insult comedian Seth Rogen, telling The Guardian, "If you wanted Seth Rogen running through the desert, that's a different movie."
