Don’t mess with a man and his hair!

Singer Michael Bolton recently shared he took up karate lessons after being mocked for having long hair.

The 60-year-old says he initially grew his hair long to emulate musical idols The Beatles and The Rolling Stones.

“My brother grew his hair first and then two of my friends,” explains the “To Love Somebody” singer.

“We were the only kids left in junior high school who our parents supported having long hair and they would have to come to school and talk to the principle and make [the other kids] leave us alone.”

But the bullying continued outside the confines of school as well. “We walked down the street with long hair…and people would just roll their windows down and yell stuff at you and you’d get threatened,” shares the Connecticut native.

Eventually, the mocking became too much for Bolton, and despite his time invested in karate, he decided to cut his hair.

“We were kicked out of school and I finally decided it was time for a change,” he shares with Irish TV program “The Late Late Show.” “The day after I cut it I knew I’d made the right decision.”

But high school didn’t keep the crooner away from long hair for long! Bolton grew out his hair after he found success as a singer, but has since cut it, preferring a shorter style.
