The biggest night in fashion will honor one of the most incredible decades-long collaborations that we’ve ever been lucky enough to witness. The 2019 Met Gala will spotlight Cher and her longtime designer Bob Mackie with an exhibit that will showcase a number of impressive costumes he brought to life for the iconic singer.

The dynamic duo will be celebrated at the Metropolitan Museum of Art’s annual event on Monday, May 6, in New York City. The famed designer lent The Costume Institute a handful of original ensembles — including many that Cher, 72, wore throughout her long-running Las Vegas residency — for its part in the upcoming gala, “Camp: Notes on Fashion.”

Cher and Bob have been by each other’s side through thick and thin since they first met in 1967. In an exclusive interview with Closer Weekly in mid-February, the Tony-nominated designer gushed about how proud he is to be a part of such a fashion evolution.

“In the old days, she was so young, she didn’t know how amazing she could look,” the 79-year-old revealed, adding that Cher did anything to stand out from the rest of those around her. “She says, ‘I don’t want to look like a housewife in an evening gown.’ Not that we ever have to worry about that!” he jokingly recalled.

One of the brunette beauty’s most memorable outfits — her 1986 Oscars gown that featured a stunning headpiece and a black, jewel-encrusted, cut-out gown —  is expected to be included in Cher’s highly anticipated exhibit. Bob dished that when it comes to fashion, the “If I Could Turn Back Time” songstress has always liked to take risks. “It never occurs to her to think, ‘They’re going to stare at me,’” the Emmy Award-winning designer added.

For as long as fans have continued to cheer Cher on, the “Dancing Queen” singer revealed that Bob was always the mastermind behind her decisions. “Bob changed my entire life!” she once admitted of her friend who she met on the set of The Carol Burnett Show when they were just in their 20s. “Without him, I would have been a peacock without feathers.” Be sure to stay tuned for more news on Cher’s exhibit and the rest of the exciting 2019 Met Gala coming up on May 6!
