Melanie Griffith Gives Daughter Dakota Johnson’s Boyfriend Chris Martin the Stamp of Approval: ‘I Adore Him!’

Does Dakota Johnson see wedding bells in her future?! Melanie Griffith, who happens to be the mom of the 50 Shades of Grey actress, recently opened up about her daughter’s longtime relationship with Chris Martin. The Working Girl star couldn’t seem happier for her little girl as she gushed about the Coldplay frontman.

“I love my daughter’s boyfriend. I think that they’re an awesome couple,” the 62-year-old beauty told People while attending the Farrah Fawcett Foundation’s Tex-Mex Fiesta in Beverly Hills on Friday, September 6.

We bet Chris is thrilled to have Melanie’s stamp of approval!

This isn’t even the first time Roar actress expressed her affection for Dakota and Chris — who first sparked dating rumors after being spotted out on a sushi dinner date in Los Angeles in October 2017. “I adore him!” she told the outlet at the time. “But [Dakota] is very private about her life, and I respect that.”

We have no doubt Melanie’s opinion means a lot to Dakota, 29, considering the mother-daughter duo share a strong bond. In fact, The Peanut Butter Falcon actress revealed she filmed a scene in the sequel Fifty Shades Darker that is dedicated to Melanie! “There is a moment — there is a little surprise moment especially for my mom in this movie,” she told Hoda Kotb during an appearance on Today in October 2017.

“It’s kind of an homage to your mom in some way?” Hoda asked. “Will people watching it understand it right when it happens?” Dakota replied, “I think so. I hope so.”

Initially, Melanie revealed she wouldn’t be getting her hands on a copy of the film — which could be in regards to her daughter’s provocative role in the seductive film. “She’s a really good actress, I don’t need to see [the movie] to know how good she is,” Melanie quipped of Dakota’s performance at the 2015 Oscars red carpet.
