By now, it’s safe to assume that everyone knows Meghan Markle is expecting her first baby with her husband, Prince Harry. But before the world knew about the royal baby on the way, members of Harry’s family were likely in the loop about their little bundle of joy. However, Meghan allegedly kept her big news hidden from someone in particular: her estranged father.

“Meghan did not tell Thomas Markle about the pregnancy,” a source told Us Weekly on Monday, Oct. 15, the same day of the announcement. “He found out the same time as the rest of the world.” Ouch…

Let’s just say Meg, 37, and her father have been on bad terms ever since last minute he decided he would not be able to attend her wedding on May 19 or walk her down the aisle. Following the nuptials, he has publicly spoken out time and time again about how Meghan has cut him off, and in one of his explosive tell-alls, he shared his fear about how things would be between them when Meghan announced she was expecting.

“I’m really hurt that she’s cut me off completely. I used to have a phone number and text number for her personal aides at the palace, but after I said a few critical words about the royal family changing Meghan, they cut me off,” Thomas told The Mail on Sunday. “Those numbers were disconnected, they no longer work. I have no way of contacting my daughter.”

He added, “What’s sad is that sometime in the next year Meghan and Harry will have a baby and I’ll be a grandfather, and if we’re not speaking I won’t see my grandchild,” he shared. “How tragic is that, to deprive a child of its grandfather because I said a few things critical of the royal family?”

On the other hand, Meghan’s mother, Doria Ragland, is reportedly “very happy about this lovely news and is looking forward to welcoming her first grandchild.”

The couple announced their baby on the way on Monday, Oct. 15. “Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are very pleased to announce that The Duchess of Sussex is expecting a baby in the Spring of 2019. Their Royal Highnesses have appreciated all of the support they have received from people around the world since their wedding in May and are delighted to be able to share this happy news with the public,” their message read. We can’t wait to meet their future son or daughter!
