After just three months as the Duchess of Sussex, it seems Meghan Markle‘s relationship with Queen Elizabeth is already quite special! According to Us Weekly (in the magazine’s newest issue, on newsstands now!), rather than giving Prince Harry‘s new wife the cold shoulder, the British monarch is welcoming her newest great-granddaughter with open arms.

In fact, she’s helping the 37-year-old adjust to royal life since she’s, you know, been there, done that. “The Queen is very aware of how difficult this transition would be for anyone coming into the family and experiencing so much change in their lives,” the insider told the news outlet. “That’s why it’s so important to her to make sure that Meghan feels welcomed and cared for.”

That said, the 92-year-old reportedly never wants Meghan to feel uncomfortable. “The Queen made it clear to Meghan that she should never feel that she can’t ask about something or get advice, be it from her or from one of her close courtiers or aides. She has really taken Meghan under her wing,” the source added.

The best part? The two get along graciously! “Whenever they’re together, they always have a giggle, and Her Majesty seems to really enjoy hearing Meghan’s thoughts on the world,” the insider added. “While Meghan and the Queen come from two very different backgrounds and generations, there’s a warmth between the two that’s genuine and loving.”

And the Queen has felt this way about Meghan since day one. The insider added, “The Queen became fond of Meghan at their first meeting not just because she’s the charming woman who brought happiness into her grandson’s life, but also because she quickly demonstrated that she’s intelligent, polite, and keen to learn.” We bet Harry was so proud to bring Meghan home to the Queen!
