Meghan Markle Once Wrote a Blog Post About Wanting to Be a Princess (Yes, Seriously!)

It was meant to be! Long before she tied the knot with Prince Harry in a lavish royal wedding, Meghan Markle wrote a blog post about wanting to be a princcess — and she even mentioned Kate Middleton in the article! 

Four years ago, Meghan, 37, took to her now-defunct lifestyle blog, The Tig, to publish a post about her desires to be a princess when she was a little girl. But unlike some other young women, the Duchess of Sussex revealed that she didn’t want to be a typical princess like Cinderella. 

“Little girls dream of being princesses. I, for one, was all about She-Ra, Princess of Power. For those of you unfamiliar with the 80s cartoon reference, She-Ra is the twin sister of He-Man, and a sword-wielding royal rebel known for her strength. We’re definitely not talking about Cinderella here,” Meghan wrote back in 2014. 

She then referenced the world’s obsession with royalty and how it was perfectly exemplified when Kate married Prince William in April 2011. “Grown women seem to retain this childhood fantasy. Just look at the pomp and circumstance surrounding the royal wedding and endless conversation about Princess Kate,” Meghan wrote.

In April 2017 — just a few months before Meghan and Harry announced their royal engagement — the former actress shut down The Tig with a sweet message to her fans. “After close to three beautiful years on this adventure with you, it’s time to say goodbye to The Tig. What began as a passion project (my little engine that could) evolved into an amazing community of inspiration, support, fun, and frivolity,” she began. 

“You’ve made my days brighter and filled this experience with so much joy. Keep finding those Tig moments of discovery, keep laughing and taking risks, and keep being ‘the change you wish to see in the world.’ Thank you for everything,” Meghan concluded her farewell post. 

A few months later, Meghan also shut down her social media accounts in preparation to marry Harry in May 2018.
