With just two months left until Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tie the knot, there still seems to be a lot of confusion over who will walk Meghan down the aisle. It has previously been reported that Meghan would be accompanied by her mother, but now rumors are circulating that it could be her soon-to-be brother-in-law, Prince William.

According to The Daily Star, the royals are “concerned” about Meghan’s mother giving her away, as it is a break away from traditional protocols. They have therefore allegedly suggested that Prince William is a more suitable option, claiming he is “the natural choice.” It would be in a similar fashion to Princess Margaret’s wedding in 1960, where Prince Philip walked her down the aisle following the death of her father.

Meghan’s father, Thomas Markle, is reportedly not invited to the wedding after becoming a “recluse” since being in the limelight making their relationship “difficult,” a source told The Daily Star. Her other closest male relative, her brother Thomas Markle Jr., is also allegedly not invited, with an unnamed source telling the paper, “I think it is because he just can’t seem to keep his mouth shut, if he would quit talking to the media, Meghan would probably be more into the idea of inviting him.”

The intense family drama had previously led to the assumption her mother would give her away, with an insider stating, “Meghan said that she would prefer to have her mom with her as she is much closer to her than her dad. She’s also worried about how he would handle it as he’s become even more of a recluse. Not to mention the fact that there has been some bad blood between Harry and Thomas after Harry made comments about her finally getting the family she never had.”

However, since the royals have possibly vetoed this option, it’s looking more likely Prince William will take her mother’s place. We can only wait until May 19, on the big day, to find out if Meghan will shun traditional royal protocols and insist her mother walks with her.
