It hasn’t even been a full year since Meghan Markle officially became a member of the royal family, and the Duchess of Sussex has already racked up a pretty penny when it comes to her wardrobe. While setting fashion trends and selling out items has become an unofficial part of the 37-year-old’s new title, Meg just proved that being a royal is not cheap.
According to the royal fashion website UFO No More‘s findings, Meghan came in strong and topped the list for the most expensive wardrobe of 14 royal women. This list included Kate Middleton, Princess Eugenie, and Princess Beatrice, but Meg beat them out with her grand total of $508,258. Wow!
While that sounds like a ton of money to spend in less than one year, it’s not surprising when Meg wore high-end designers like Oscar de la Renta, Givenchy, Armani, Jason Wu, and Victoria Beckham. Plus, the former actress had a ton of appearances this year, with many being on her first two-week marathon royal tour through Australia, Fiji, Tonga, and New Zealand with Prince Harry.
However, not all the clothing that Meg wore the past year was included. The grand total of $508,258 was only comprised of items that could be priced or estimated, therefore only 254 pieces of the 323 new pieces she wore were accounted for.
Plus, the Cartier bracelet and earrings — which total about $233,000 — that were reportedly given to Meg by Prince Charles were included as it hasn’t been confirmed if the items were actually a gift. Regardless, Meg still beats out the others on the list whether the jewelry was included or not. Additionally, her custom wedding gown was not incorporated as it could not be priced.
Just to put Meg’s hefty price tag into perspective, her sister-in-law, Kate, came in fourth with 117 new pieces, 81 of which could be priced out or estimated for an $85,097 total. As for Eugenie, the newlywed came in 12th with 60 new pieces, 43 of which added up to an estimated $39,818.
