Meghan Markle and Prince Harry Announce the Name of Their Baby Son: Meet Archie!
Baby Sussex no longer! Meghan Markle gave birth to her baby boy on Monday, May 6, and now she and Prince Harry have revealed the little guys name: Archie.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are pleased to announce they have named their first born child: Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor,” a post from the @SussexRoyal Instagram account reads. “This afternoon Their Royal Highnesses introduced Her Majesty The Queen to her eighth great-grandchild at Windsor Castle. The Duke of Edinburgh and The Duchess’ mother were also present for this special occasion.

Now that the youngest member of the royal family has arrived, many can’t help but wonder where Archie lies in the line of succession to the British throne. Chances are Meg and Harry’s bundle of joy won’t ever rule England, because he is seventh in line to be monarch. After Queen Elizabeth, her son, Princes Charles is in line, followed by Prince William and all his children. That means that Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis all have priority before Harry, 34, and any of his children.

As the first royal who is part American, many fans are curious about the Archie’s citizenship. It turns out, he is eligible to apply for a dual citizenship — if the parents desire.
According to the U.S. Department of State’s website, “A person born abroad in wedlock to a U.S. citizen and an alien acquires U.S. citizenship at birth if the U.S. citizen parent has been physically present in the United States or one of its outlying possessions prior to the person’s birth for the period required by the statute in effect when the person was born. For birth on or after November 14, 1986, the U.S. citizen parent must have been physically present in the United States or one of its outlying possessions for five years prior to the person’s birth, at least two of which were after the age of fourteen.”
Basically because Meghan is an American citizen who resided in the states less than five years ago, her baby will have the chance to be recognized as both American and British.
