Royal protection officers are apparently changing the family’s traditional security rules to better protect pregnant Meghan Markle and her unborn baby. According to a new report from The Sun, Queen Elizabeth and her entire brood will no longer be allowed to open and close their own car doors because it’s not safe for them to do so.

“Although having a car door closed might seem like a trivial thing, it could be the difference … God forbid if anything did go wrong arriving at a royal engagement … But security need to be able to get them back into cars in seconds if needs be,” a source recently told the UK outlet.

Since “nothing is more important to these guys than protecting the royal family,” Kate Middleton, Prince William, Prince Harry, and Meghan, 37, will have to adapt to the new rules to keep themselves safe. And if they aren’t closing their own car doors any more than royal fans can finally stop freaking out when Meghan is caught doing just that.

This past September, Meghan attended her first solo royal event and majorly made headlines when she got out of her vehicle and gently closed the car’s door shut behind her. After a video of the moment went viral, lots of people took to Twitter to voice their frustrations over Meg’s unexpected move.

“First time I’ve seen an on-duty Princess shut her own car door …” one person commented. But, apparently, etiquette expert William Hanson previously told the Daily Mail that Megan closed her own car door for a reason. “The Duchess of Sussex closing her own car door is yet another silent signal that she is going to be doing things her own way and helping adapt and progress the British monarchy,” Hanson said.

Since Meghan is used to doing things her own way, we’ll have to wait and see if she will abide by the new royal rules and have her security open and close her vehicle doors. It seems like the royal family’s bodyguards are starting to enforce more security measures after Prince Philip’s scary car crash last week, so if these new rules mean the royal family can travel safely, then we’re all for it!
