Matt Rogers Reflects on Being Told to ‘Shut Up’ By Joy Behar on ‘The View’: ‘A Little Conflict’

The View watchers witnessed Joy Behar boldly telling guest Matt Rogers to “shut up” during an episode of the show years ago, and he’s finally speaking out on the viral moment and the aftermath.

The comedian, 35, first appeared on The View in December 2023, recalling a 2022 flight in which he ended up on the same plane with the cohosts after they recorded their spring break episodes in the Bahamas.

“That was really fun. I will say, Bowen [Yang] and I were sitting in the second row of the plane, you guys were in the first row, you were barefoot on that plane,” Matt said at the time, referring to Joy’s choice to remove her shoes on the plane.

Joy, 82, turned to him and said, “shut up,” adding, “Don’t tell people that.”

Cohost Sara Haines looked totally shocked by the exchange. Later on in the interview, they addressed the topic of the plane encounter again. Joy said that Matt “outed” her for having her feet out on the plane.

“You’re mad at me?” he asked Joy. “You weren’t hiding it, Joy. Your feet were up and out. They were beautiful feet, they were absolutely stunning.”

In May 2025, Matt revealed the exchange was all fun and games and made him feel “like [he’d] really made it” in Hollywood, he told Entertainment Weekly.

“I get to shake Joy Behar up on The View? In a way, I guess I had a little View conflict, which, as a little gay boy who’s always watched The View, you look forward to that,” he told the outlet.

The podcast host said that things are “all good” between him and Joy. They “laughed afterwards, and we had a good time” after the moment on stage.

“I didn’t ruffle feathers too badly,” he playfully said before recalling the fun time that he had in the Bahamas with The View cohosts.

“We had a really fun time in the Bahamas with the cohosts of The View. Here’s what I’ll say about them: They are exactly who they are on television, and exactly who you’d want them all to be,” Matt shared. “There’s no faking. They’re that smart, they’re that dynamic, they’re that unique, and they are genuinely friends, and they really love each other.”

Of course, Joy’s known for her brazen behavior on the long-running talk show toward guests and her fellow cohosts. Fans may even remember when Matthew McConaughey gave the comedian a foot massage during an episode of the talk show in September 2023, something he also did back in 2006.

“Now you know where I got this from. This is my dad’s trick,” Matthew said. “Now if you remember what that was inspired from, my dad would do this. I’ve got two older brothers, every time we had a date come over, we noticed they’d come over earlier and earlier, we’re going out at eight and they’d show up at seven …. Who’s sitting on the couch getting a foot rub? Your date. My dad would always give a foot rub.”
