It seems Matt Lauer just can’t let go of the Today show even after his recent firing for allegations of sexual misconduct. According to a new report, the 60-year-old former co-anchor still watches the program (now at home since he’s out of a job) and often sends critiques to the producers. Sources have told Page Six that Matt recently “sent a producer an email saying that he felt they had used the wrong music to kick off a segment.” The insiders added that his unsolicited comments have “not been warmly received by Today staff.”

The report of Matt’s continued interest in Today comes just days after NBC officially announced that Hoda Kotb will now serve as the show’s new co-anchor alongside Savannah Guthrie. According to Life & Style, Hoda, 53, and Savannah, 46, couldn’t be more thrilled about the decision. “Savannah and Hoda never thought that they would be this close, but they’ve actually bonded over Matt’s betrayal and departure. They’re still hurt, reeling over the details of Matt’s disgusting behavior. He had to go, and now Savannah and Hoda are better friends because of it — and their show is doing better than it was before. Privately, they’re proud of the success,” a source recently revealed.

“They’ve not only held things together since Matt’s firing but done great work together,” the insider continued. “They’ve always loved each other, but Savannah and Hoda are spending more time talking when the cameras aren’t rolling than they ever have. Matt’s downfall has forged a deeper friendship between the two.” Following Hoda’s promotion, Matt even reached out to the TV star to send his well wishes. “He was sweet this morning. Certain texts popped up, and there was one from Matt: ‘Congratulations!'” Hoda revealed. “And he said some nice words. It meant the world to me to hear from him. It was really nice.”

In the wake of his firing, Matt’s marriage to his wife of 20 years, Annette Roque, has reportedly been on the rocks. But, according to Life & Style, Matt is now “begging Annette not to divorce him.” A source revealed that “he’s trying to convince her that this scandal could actually make them stronger. He’s making promises, saying all the right things, and he’s more available than ever. Annette sees that, but she’s still very conflicted.”
