Mary Tyler Moore Dead at Age 80

Mary Tyler Moore has sadly died at age 80, TMZ reports.

“Today, beloved icon, Mary Tyler Moore, passed away at the age of 80 in the company of friends and her loving husband of over 33 years, Dr. S. Robert Levine,” her longtime rep, Mara Buxbaum, told the news outlet.

“A groundbreaking actress, producer, and passionate advocate for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Mary will be remembered as a fearless visionary who turned the world on with her smile,” she continued.

Mary was allegedly on a respirator for more than a week. May she rest in peace.

According to TMZ, the beloved actress — who celebrated her 80th birthday on Dec. 29 — is sadly in grave condition at Connecticut hospital.

The publication reports that The Mary Tyler Moore Show star already has friends and family coming there to say goodbye to her.

Mary has a had a long battle with health issues over the years, and has recently become in critical condition. Aside from her diabetes diagnosis, — which she received at age 33 — the actress also underwent brain surgery in 2011.

She has been out of the spotlight because of her health since 2013. Sadly, her illnesses have forced her to remain home a lot of the time, but she still maintains her friendships through phone calls. That said, at that time, some of her closest friends spoke out about her conditions to Closer Weekly.

“Her eyesight is what the big problem is right now,” her former costar Betty White revealed to Closer back in 2014.

“Mary is not a woe-is-me woman,” her longtime friend Valerie Harper also told Closer. “She has her bad days emotionally, but she just tries to find enjoyment in each and every day.”

Dick Van Dyke — who played her husband on The Dick Van Dyke Show — revealed they former duo talk all the time. “I don’t see her often, but I talk to her a bunch. She hasn’t been too well. She’s really having a battle with it, I’m sorry to say,” he said.

In another previous interview, Dick talked about how much he valued his relationship with Mary when they were on the show together. “It was just serendipity,” Dick gushed to Closer of the special connection with his leading lady. “We got to where we could read other’s minds. It was like doing improv.”

“Never in the history of the series did anybody doubt they were a perfectly matched couple,” Carl Reiner, who created the show told Closer. “Years later, we found out they both really cared for each other, and if they weren’t married, they would’ve been a couple.”
