Martin Freeman and Amanda Abbington have sadly split just before the holidays.
The 45-year-old actor — known for portraying John in the hit 2003 Christmas movie Love Actually and Dr. John Watson on the British crime drama Sherlock — and his longtime partner, 42, recently separated after 15 years together.
Martin revealed the surprising news of his breakup from Amanda in an interview with the Financial Times on Thursday, Dec. 22.

“I’m not with Amanda anymore,” he said. “It’s very, very amicable — I’ll always love Amanda.”
The former couple previously met on the British series Men Only in 2000 and began dating shortly thereafter. In addition to Sherlock, Martin and Amanda have also co-starred in the 2003 TV movie The Debt, on the television show The Robinsons and in films Swinging with the Finkels and The All Together.

Martin and Amanda — who reside in Hertfordshire, England — are parents to two children. They welcomed son Joe Freeman, 10, in 2006 and daughter Grace Freeman, 8, in 2008. The duo never married during their long-term relationship.
In a 2011 interview with the Daily Mail, Amanda candidly opened up about why she and Martin hadn't tied the knot. "We don't want to spoil it. We've got two children together, two dogs and a cat and a house, and that's such a big commitment," she said of marriage.
"Maybe one day we will, but we wouldn't want a huge hoopla; we'd run away and do it on our own and have a party afterwards," Amanda added.
