Paul and Jamie Buchanan may be returning to your television screens sometime in the near future! Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser are reportedly in talks about reprising their leading roles as the Buchanans in a Mad About You revival, TVLine reports.

According to multiple sources, Sony is set to produce the reboot, and the series will be brought “back for a limited run.” Paul helped co-create the original with Danny Jacobson, and is “allegedly leading the charge to resurrect the show.” It is currently unclear if Anne Ramsay, Leila Kenzle, John Pankow, and Richard Kind will return for the reboot.

The NBC sitcom aired for seven seasons between 1992 and 1999. It followed the lives of Paul and Jamie Buchanan, two newlyweds navigating the daily tasks of marriage and life. In later seasons, the couple eventually welcomed a daughter named Mabel.

An insider revealed to TVLine that the new episodes will “likely revolve around Paul and Jamie grappling with empty-nest syndrome in the wake of now-17-year-old daughter Mabel’s admission to college.” So relatable!

Paul had previously hinted at a possible revival to People back in October during the Stranger Things Season 2 premiere. “If we can find the story to tell, and anybody’s interested, I’d be open to it,” he said. “You got an idea? Yeah. Come up with some ideas.”

“For years, I would’ve said, ‘Absolutely no. We never would do it,’ because I was very proud of how we ended it really well,” Paul continued. “We even told the future a little bit, so our thinking at the time was, ‘Let’s make sure we never get tempted to come back. Let’s tell them what happens.’”

“Now, because everybody’s talking about it, I started to think, ‘Maybe if there’s a story we could come up with,’” he said. “To me, it’s interesting when I see my kids are growing and leaving the house. It’s like, ‘Oh.’ It’s like that moment when you get married. It’s like we’re in a new world that we don’t know the rules of.” They definitely have a relatable story to tell that any parent with college-aged kids can sympathize with!
