We’re heartbroken after hearing this news.

Fans were worried about what happened to Luke Bryan after it was reported that his infant niece sadly passed away.

The country singer unfortunately said goodbye to Sadie Brett Boyer on Tuesday, Feb. 21. The little girl was previously born last summer and reportedly battled a heart issue as well as other conditions throughout her short lifespan. She was the child of Luke’s wife Caroline Bryan‘s brother Bo Boyer and his wife, Ellen Boyer.

Though the family was pretty quiet about Sadie’s condition throughout her life, fans were a bit hopeful when her mother, Ellen, gave a positive update about the newborn in December 2016.

“I don’t even know where to begin in singing praises. Guys, Dr. Mettler says our Brett’s surgery went as well as he could ever hope for! She was on bypass for a minimal amount of time and they have significantly improved her mitral valve regurgitation. This is without a doubt a miracle from God. No questions about it. Bo and I held our breath for the five hours before we talked with our doctor. But we truly felt wrapped up in Gods love and peace,” she said at the time.

“We are so hopeful! What a welcomed feeling of a little bit of relief. We will still have a roller coaster of a week to keep her stable. But for today, in the course of our recovery,” she wrote on Facebook at the time. “This is a HUGE leap in the right direction. Today is a victory. There isn’t a doubt in my mind that every prayer prayed on Brett’s behalf was heard, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. For today, let’s sing praises to God! Our prayers today are with a grateful, full heart, hopeful that Brett will have a smooth progressive week.”

Sadly, this isn’t the first time Luke has faced an unimaginable family tragedy. His older brother, Chris, died in a car crash when he was 26-years-old, an event which later inspired Luke’s song “Drink a Beer.” Eleven years later, his sister, Kelly, unexpectedly died at age 39. In 2014, her husband, Ben Lee Cheshire, also passed away, and now Luke and his wife, Caroline, are raising the couple’s son and their nephew, Til.

Our thoughts are with Luke and his family during this difficult time.
