Fans have long been a part of Lisa Whelchel’s life. At only 12 years old, she found herself living life in the public eye when she was recruited by Disney to join The New Mickey Mouse Club as a Mouseketeer. Shortly after, her iconic role as Blair Warner reaffirmed her status as an American pop culture icon. Now, 40 years after America first fell in love with Mrs. Garrett’s girls on Facts of Life, Lisa is returning to television to celebrate pop culture and the people that love it most: the collectors.

Collector’s Call will be the first-ever original programming for MeTV. Lisa shares with Closer Weekly, “I’m thrilled! I’m a lifelong learner and I homeschooled my kids. So I know the power of hands-on learning, and I can’t tell you how much I’ve learned by seeing these collections.”

Over the first season, Lisa travels the country meeting collectors with collections ranging from TV and film memorabilia to rare books, even history buffs with Presidential collections. Some have maintained collection deemed worthy by the Guinness Book of World Records.

She tells Closer she’s had some personal experience with memorabilia in the past: “There was a website even devoted to Blair’s hair.” So when she met a collector specializing in Presidential locks of hair, “I just cut off a little lock of my hair to add to his collection!”

But her favorite part of the experience wasn’t the collections as much as it was the characters she encountered. “What I didn’t realize was gonna end up being the most fun of all, though, was the collectors themselves. As you can imagine, anybody that’s passionate about one certain thing is gonna be a character, and that has proven to be true.”

Join Lisa on this journey through treasures past when Collector’s Call premieres Sunday, April 7, 10 p.m./9c on MeTV following a special three-hour marathon, Lisa’s Call in honor of the 40th anniversary of Facts of Life, featuring Lisa’s five favorite episodes!
