If there’s one person the world needs right now, it’s Elle Woods. Thankfully, with Legally Blonde 3 finally confirmed, everyone’s favorite Delta Nu sorority girl turned high-powered lawyer will be back on the big screen soon enough!
And Reese Witherspoon herself got us even more excited for the upcoming film by teasing the flick during a recent interview with Entertainment Tonight while at the Hollywood premiere of her new docuseries, Shine On With Reese, on Monday, Aug. 6.
“Oh, it’s gonna be so fun!” the 42-year-old revealed. “I got to go to a meeting the other day where we talked about all the new plot points and all the characters and some returning characters and some new characters. I mean, I got so excited just in the meeting. I was like, ‘This is gonna be good.'” But don’t get too excited — Reese wouldn’t share any of those specific details quite yet!
Reese previously took to Instagram on Thursday, June 7 to assure fans that the third installment of the film is actually happening. “It’s true… #LegallyBlonde3,” the blonde beauty captioned a video of herself recreating the iconic clip of her floating on a raft in a pink bikini.
Fans immediately took to the comments to express their joy. “OMG MY LIFE IS MADE,” one wrote. Another added, “This movie is why I became a lawyer!” Others followed up with “OMG” and “YAYAYA!” and subsequently tagged their friends on the social media platform.
Deadline first reported the news of Legally Blonde 3 on Tuesday, June 5. They claimed MGM was finalizing a deal with Reese to return as the legendary Elle Woods for a third installation of the Legally Blonde franchise. In addition, they shared the production studio will bring back the majority of the creative team from the first film. How exciting!

Despite the fact that it’s been nearly two decades since Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde (2003) hit theaters, the themes of the movie are more relevant than ever. While the plot of this new feature has remained mostly a secret, Deadline reported that female empowerment will play a large role.
Let’s face it, fictional or not, nobody does female empowerment better than Elle Woods. It has yet to be confirmed as to whether Reese’s co-stars — namely Luke Wilson, Selma Blair, and Jennifer Coolidge — will be returning to the project.

To be honest, we’re mostly concerned about the return of Bruiser Woods, Elle’s trusted chihuahua companion. Sadly, the pooch who originally played the role (real name Moonie) has since passed away.
In 2016, Reese paid tribute to her fallen co-star on Instagram. “I will never forget all the days we spent together… I’m sure his tail is wagging in the sky,” she wrote. Here’s hoping another furry actor is ready to live up to the part — he or she will have big paws to fill!
