TV legend Larry King and wife Shawn King filed for divorce on Tuesday, August 20, just shy of their 22-year wedding anniversary, Closer Weekly can confirm. According to court documents, Larry filed for the divorce citing irreconcilable differences and listing the date of separation as June 6, 2019.

The couple wed on September 5, 1997. Both filed for divorce on April 14, 2010, but they reconciled.

“I’ll tell you the truth, I feel like the billion dollar man!” Larry exclusively told Closer Weekly back in March 2019 when asked how he was doing. “I’ve lived through so many things in my life. I pinch myself every day. I’m 85 years old, I still work every day, I have a complete life [and] I have a beautiful, supportive wife.”

“I have so much to live for. I have a great, wonderful wife who’s so supportive and she’s been over-the-top sensational,” he added, calling her a “great caretaker” for her help during health struggles. “I can’t explain it but I feel blessed — blessed to have great people around me, great family, great friends, people who keep in contact. It’s nice to know that people think about you.”

At the time it seemed like everything was just fine from Shawn’s side too.

“Well, he’s a great patient — I say that with my tongue planted firmly in my cheek,” Shawn joked. “He does not like hospitals, he does not like doctors’ offices, he wants to get out of them as soon as he can. So that’s what he did and I’m grateful that he’s home. With each day he just does better and better. When we wake up each morning I look over and I’m so thankful that he’s even better than he was the day before.”

Larry and Shawn said “I do” in the radio personality’s hospital room three days before he underwent heart surgery to clear a clogged blood vessel. Together they have weathered other health struggles including chronic leukemia. They share two children together — sons Chance, 20, and Cannon, 19 — in addition to Shawn’s son, Danny Southwick, 37, from a previous relationship.

Before Shawn, 59, the Larry King Live host’s has been married eight times to seven different women. First there was high school sweetheart Freda Miller, whom he was married to from 1952 until 1953. Then there was Annette Kaye, whom he was married briefly in 1961. The interviewer’s third wife, Alene Akins, was married to him from 1961 until 1963. Then came Mary Francis “Mickey” Stuphin, whom he was married to from 1963 until 1967. Larry then remarried Alene from 1969 until 1972. He married his fifth wife, Sharon Lepore, from 1976 until 1983. Then came Julie Alexander, whom he was married to from 1989 until 1992. There was also an engagement to Deanne Lund in 1995, but they never tied the knot.
