"Life Goes On"Kim Basinger Dishes on Her Painful Divorce From Alec Baldwin
Nearly 15 years after her divorce from Alec Baldwin, Kim Basinger is opening up about their painful split — and admitted their separation greatly affected their daughter Ireland‘s upbringing.
“Divorce is hard on a kid, no matter how you cut it. And ours was very public and nasty,” the 62-year-old actress recently revealed to The Edit by Net-A-Porter. “So I brought up Ireland in a very unconventional way.”

“I just wanted her to be free. If she wanted to have her friends over and write over the walls with pen, that was fine,” Kim continued. “I wanted her childhood to be full of love and light and animals and friends.”

Alec, 58, and Kim married in August 1993 and welcomed Ireland, 20, in October 1995. Following their separation in February 2002, the former couple entered into a messy, four-year custody battle over their daughter.

Thankfully, the Batman star says she and Alec are now on good terms. “[We are] cool now, though,” Kim added. “Life goes on.”
Today, Alec and his second wife, Hilaria Baldwin, are parents to two kids, Carmen, 2, and Rafael, 10 months, and announced they are expecting their third baby last March. Kim has been happily dating her longtime hairstylist, Mitch Stone, since December 2014.
